WinLink - Internet Email via Radio Tranceivers (QO-100 included)
Is a network of amateur radio and authorized government stations that provide worldwide radio email using radio pathways where the internet is not present. The system is built, operated and administered entirely by licensed "Ham" volunteers. It supports email with attachments, position reporting, weather and information bulletins, and is well-known for its role in interoperable emergency and disaster relief communications. It is capable of operating completely without the internet--automatically--using smart-network radio relays. Winlink is a fascinating system and a great example of how amateur radio technology still plays an important role in modern communication. The ability to send emails and information through radio networks without relying entirely on the internet is especially valuable during emergencies, disasters, or in remote locations. Support for satellites like QO-100 makes the system even more impressive for long-distance communication enthusiasts. It’s amazing how volunteers and licensed operators continue to maintain such a useful global communication network.
